New Search

Selecting the 'New Search' option from the ribbon menu opens a Case or Category Selection dialog. Choosing a case or category opens the search dialog. Specify search criteria by filling out index data fields.

Valid Input

The following table details valid input for searches by index data field.

Field Type Input String
Currency and Number Field 0-9
Number Field The decimal point character (".", ",") must be consistent with the local system settings
Text Field Any alphanumeric string
Date Field Any date format that is consistent with the local system settings
Keyword Field Dropdown Selection

If a field is highlighted in yellow, it means that this field is mandatory and must have been filled in when the document was saved.

The search dialog contains the following options:

Find
Run the search.

Abort
Stop a search that is in the process of being executed.

Save Search

Save as (global)
This search mask will be available to all Therefore™ users with access to the category.  

Save as (personal)
This search mask will be available only on the local system.  

Reset Search
Resets the index data fields to their original values.

Load Last Search
Loads the values entered the last time this search was used.

Clear Search
Clears all index data fields.

Insert Operator
Click the dropdown arrow to select an operator. Check the following page for more information on operators:

Enable Full-Text Search
Search for text strings within the results of the index data search.

A combined index data and full-text search first performs an index data search restricted to the documents defined by the index data search. As a second step, a full-text search for the search string is run on all hits returned by the index data search.

For example, a search for 'Date: Created between January 1st 2025 and April 22nd 2025' and the text string 'discount' would first return all documents created within this timeframe, and then run a full-text search for the word 'discount' on the results.

Specify internal file parameters as a filter for the search.

Fields
Opens the Show Fields dialog where the user can pick which index data fields should be displayed as column headers and specify the order of the fields.

Sort
Opens a dialog to define a sort and group filter for the search. Up to four levels can be defined. The Sort dialog contains additional options:

Right-clicking on an index data field in the 'New Search dialog opens a context menu with standard functions such as Undo, Cut, Copy, and Paste for all field types.

The following options are field type specific:

Date fields

Present day
Paste the current date into the field.

Primary and Dependent fields

Keywords
Shows a list of available values.

Browse
Opens a dialog that allows the database to be filtered and searched.

Keyword fields

Keywords
Shows a list of available keywords.

Browse
Opens a dialog that allows the keyword dictionary to be filtered and searched.

The following options are available in the Sort dialog:

Sort

Sort Items by
Choose the 1st field to sort by.  Then specify if the order should be ascending or descending.

Group items by this field
If this check box is checked, the results will be grouped by this field in addition to the specified sorting.

Then by
Three additional sorting and grouping levels can also be specified.
