DCOM Configuration

Where DCOM connectivity is required, users who need to connect to Therefore™ must be members of the Distributed COM Users group on the Therefore™ Server. In addition the Distributed COM Users group needs to have remote permissions on the Therefore™ Server.

First, add the users that should have access to Therefore™ to the Distributed COM Users group.

  1. In the Server Manager application, go to Dashboard > Tools and click 'Computer Management'.

  2. Go to Local Users and Groups > Groups and locate 'Distributed COM Users'.

  3. Right-click on the group and click 'Properties'.

  4. Click 'Add' and enter the users that should be able to access Therefore™. They should then be displayed as 'Members' in the previous window.

Next, give the users in the 'Distributed COM Users' group remote permissions on the Therefore™ Server.

  1. Open the Component Services application and go to Component Services > Computer > right-click on 'My Computer'.

  2. Go to the 'COM Security' tab > 'Access Permissions > click 'Edit Default'.

  3. Add the 'Distributed COM Users' group and click the 'Allow' checkbox next to 'Remote Access'

As a final step, check if the Therefore™ Server is using the right permission settings.

  1. Open the Component Services application and go to Component Services > Computer > My Computer > DCOM Config > right-click on 'Therefore™ Server' > select 'Properties'.

  2. Open the Security tab and check if both 'Launch and Activation Permissions' and 'Access Permissions' are set to 'Use Default'.

It is not required to restart the Therefore™ Server service.
