Therefore™ PDF Printer

The Therefore™ PDF Printer allows users to save documents as PDF (and other formats) directly to Therefore™. Printers are configured with a specific, optional application called Therefore™ PDF Printer Configuration, available for administrators. These printers are listed as devices alongside any physical printers the device would use to print and will be available for selection when printing a document.

Therefore™ PDF Printer Configuration

The PDF printer settings can be configured in the 'Administrator' tab.

Available Therefore printers
Select from the available PDF printers. Clicking the 'Printing Preferences' button opens a dialog.

Device Settings

Paper Size
Select a pre-defined paper size from the drop down. Additional sizes can be added by clicking 'Edit paper list'. The 'Force Paper Size' checkbox will ensure the documents will be printed using the paper size and resolution settings of the printer driver.

Orientation
Set the document orientation to be in 'Portrait', 'Landscape', or rotated at a specific angle. Enable the 'Rotate Landscape image to Portrait' checkbox to ensure landscape images are rotated 90º and can be printed in portrait format.

Graphic Resolution
Select a pre-defined resolution from the drop down. Additional resolutions can be added by clicking 'Edit Resolutions'. 'Force printer DPI' will force documents to always be printed with the printer's resolution. The generated image size is calculated based of the set resolution values.

Pages to Print
Select between printing all pages or specific pages. When specifying pages, use the page number and separate them by using commas. For ranges of pages, enter the first and last page of the range separated by a dash.

Print Preview Window
Enabling this setting will display a preview of the document while it is being printed. An overlay image can be added to this preview by clicking 'Preview Overlay Settings'. This overlay will not appear on the final printed document.

File Formats
Select between any of the supported file formats, PDF and PDF/A.

PDF Settings / PDF/A Settings
Click this button to open the PDF Settings dialog. In this dialog users can enter a file description, document encryption, file compression settings, font settings and how the PDF should open.

Redirect Printing
In this tab users can configure redirect printing options for physical and virtual printers by using the Black Ice printer driver. Check the 'Enable redirect printing' checkbox and select from the list of available printers (virtual and physical) which ones to redirect to.

Click OK to save any set printing preferences.

Printer settings for all users
Configure if printed documents should all be saved to a fixed category and use a specific document title format. Additionally, it can be enabled to display the index data dialog for the category before saving the document. These settings universally apply to all users of the Therefore™ tenant.

Save configuration for every user
Clicking this will save all the printing preferences set for each printer as the configuration to be used for every user.

Agent Printers

Additional PDF printers can be added in this tab. These will then be available for selection in the 'Available Therefore Printers' drop down in the 'Administrator' tab.

Using the Therefore™ PDF Printer

The Therefore™ PDF Printer is accessed when printing a document from the Windows environment. As an example, while viewing a text document with Microsoft Word, if a user opts to print this document the configured Therefore™ PDF Printers will appear as available options. Selecting this will then take the user through a similar flow as when using the 'Send to Therefore™' feature.

If a specific category was set for the selected PDF printer, the user will be prompted with the index data dialog of said category before the document is saved as a PDF into Therefore™. If a specific category was not set, the user will be asked to select one and then prompted with the respective index data dialog.
